Rachel and Mason met at a party between their sorority and fraternity at Marshall University. Although they instantly hit it off and talked for hours before Mason walked Rachel home, they had no idea that this would be the beginning of their very own fairy tale. Two weeks after the party, they started dating, and a little over two years later, they took a trip to Walt Disney World together to celebrate the end of the Fall 2018 semester. While they were getting their photo taken in front of Cinderella’s castle, Mason got down on one knee and proposed.
The two were married in a Catholic church in Rachel’s hometown of Huntington. Rachel was escorted by her father down a silk aisle cloth that had been hand-decorated by her mother as the Appalachian Children’s Chorus and Allianz String Quartet performed “Ave Maria.” In keeping with the wedding’s wintry theme, Rachel’s parents incorporated snowflakes and icicles into the decorations, most of which they created themselves. The couple exchanged traditional vows.
For the reception, Guyan Golf and Country Club was decorated to look like a tent in a forest. Guests enjoyed beef burgundy, chicken cordon bleu, or tofu steak with whipped potatoes and broccolini, followed by a two-tiered almond-flavored cake topped with decorative white frosting and a wooden cake topper depicting the bride and groom and their pets. The couple’s wedding favors incorporated their beloved pets as well: On each guest’s plate, a gold box wrapped in dark green ribbon contained sugar cookies decorated like the couple’s dog, Kenai, and their two cats, Leo and Onyx. Rachel and Mason hope to take a honeymoon in the future, but they have postponed it for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic and their busy school schedules at Marshall University School of Medicine.
