Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Best of WV Weddings awards?
Every unforgettable wedding is made possible by skilled professionals who make the day beautiful—from florists and photographers to wedding planners, dress shops, and caterers. Best of WV Weddings was created to recognize these talented vendors and the role they play in making West Virginia weddings truly special. Each year, our readers honor the people and places who help turn wedding dreams into reality.
When does Best of WV Weddings happen?
The contest takes place each August. During this single round of voting, readers can cast their votes and submit new nominations in 40 to 45 categories. When voting closes, we tally the results, contact the winners, and feature them in the Fall/Winter issue of WV Weddings.
When does the Best of WV Weddings ballot go live?
The ballot opens in August and stays live for several weeks. To be sure you don’t miss it, subscribe to WV Weddings, sign up for our newsletters, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
Who can vote?
Anyone can vote. During the voting period, you can vote once per day per category.
Who can be nominated?
Any wedding professional, business, or service can be nominated in the appropriate category. We welcome nominations for both established favorites and new discoveries. Businesses may self-nominate or be nominated by clients, colleagues, friends, or fans. If your favorite isn’t listed yet, simply use the field at the bottom of the category to add them.
Why is my nomination not showing up on the ballot?
Nominations are reviewed by the site’s administrators within 48 hours. Once approved, they will appear on the ballot. Even if your nomination is not yet visible, it’s still counted. In some cases, we need more information before we can approve it—for example, “Marsha Smith” for Best Hairstylist / Salon may not be approved until someone nominates “Marsha Smith, Creative Salon, Charleston” so we can be sure the votes are credited to the right Marsha Smith. The more details you provide, the better.
My name or address is showing up incorrectly on the ballot. What should I do?
The system uses Google business listings to pull details, so incorrect or incomplete listings can cause errors. Email corrections to promotions@newsouthmedia.com and we’ll update your information.
I am showing up in the wrong category on the ballot. What should I do?
Email promotions@newsouthmedia.com with the correct category, and we’ll make the change as quickly as possible.
Why did my category disappear?
We occasionally update, remove, or combine categories to make them more clear or to reflect changes in the industry. If a category you care about is missing, let us know—we may reinstate it in the future.
Why wasn’t I notified that I was a winner?
We do our best to contact winners after voting ends, but with dozens of categories and many nominees, it can be difficult to keep all contact information current. If you’re a nominee or winner, help us keep in touch by sending your contact name, email, mailing address, and phone number to promotions@newsouthmedia.com.
Will advertising give me an edge?
Winners are determined solely by reader votes. Advertising is not required to win, but it can help you connect with our audience of engaged couples across West Virginia and beyond. To learn about advertising opportunities, visit our website.
