She knew the proposal was coming, she just wasn’t quite sure how. After four years of dating, Richard suggested that he and Katelyn take an overnight trip to Pittsburgh, from their home in Mount Clare, WV, which tipped off Katelyn’s suspicions. The day was one of the coldest of the winter season and after enjoying breakfast at one of their favorite spots in the city, they drove to West End Overlook Park.

Taking in the breathtaking views of the city and with the sun beginning to set, Richard got down on one knee and proposed. Six months later, the two wed at the Mount Washington overlook, on a lovely July day, with the beautiful city below.

The song “Snow on the Beach” by the Vitamin String Quartet played as the entire bridal party walked down the aisle, Katelyn was escorted by her father. In Pennsylvania, you can self-somnize (marry yourselves) so they chose this instead of hiring a minister.

Their vows were in the form of a poem – Blessings for the Journey by Sensei Wendy Egyoku Nakao –  which they shared in unison. At the ceremony’s conclusion, the song “Dynamite” was played by the Vitamin String Quartet, and guests hopped into the trolley to bring them to the reception at the historic Omni William Penn hotel where guests were greeted by a gorgeous black piano adorned with lit candles and cat-shaped escort cards to guide them to their seats which were lined with silk peach l’amour linens.

The bride had a memory table honoring her grandparents, a DJ spinning the beats, a photobooth, a live wedding painter and a tattoo artist providing guests with permanent wedding favors (not everyone obliged!)

Guests were served plated meals with their choice of slow roasted prime rib, prosciutto stuffed chicken, and chilli glazed sumac salmon. An abundant cookie table complete with cookies with cookies the couple had made themselves. Richard, who is an attorney, and Katelyn, who works as an accounting assistant, will honeymoon in London in 2025.
