Brittany Shea Sovine & Lord Edward Walker | 6.22.19 | Lansing
A steak dinner dare was the impetus for the connection between Brittany, originally from Charleston, and Lord, a native of Great Falls, Virginia, when both were attending the University of Colorado-Boulder. They met through a mutual friend. Brittany advised Lord that a girl was checking him out and said she, too, would date him if he offered a steak dinner. The dinner was offered the next day, and their foray into coupledom began. They dated for several years, many of them long distance as Brittany completed her degree in veterinary medicine.
Lord proposed during one of their visits. He sprang out of bed one morning, got down on one knee, and offered his grandmother’s wedding ring as a token of his affection. Brittany said yes, and the couple was married four years later in an outdoor ceremony at Adventures on the Gorge. For her wedding, the bride chose a designer A-line gown with folk art–inspired embroidery and a high-low silhouette. She wore her great-grandmother’s wedding ring and a vintage emerald necklace that belonged to the groom’s grandmother. She was escorted down the aisle by her father, and the couple chose to stand at the altar alone and had no wedding attendants. Their best friend, Eric Butler, served as officiant. The pair exchanged Buddhist vows and incorporated Persian sofreyé aghd in honor of Zoroastrian wedding traditions and Lord’s heritage.
Guests enjoyed a preceremonial cocktail hour and a reception that incorporated an entire slate of vendors from West Virginia. Guests dined on barbecue, and the couple carved a funfetti naked wedding cake with vanilla buttercream icing and a topper made of Lego. The party closed with a spirited group performance of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The couple took a wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii, before returning home to Morgantown, where Brittany works as a veterinarian, and Lord travels globally selling industrial weighing equipment.
