Outdoor wedding venues are growing in popularity as couples move toward natural settings, tones, and textures—and stunning West Virginia backdrops. With those locations, however, come a few extra rules. In order to preserve the beauty of our great outdoors, many venues have restrictions on what can and can’t be done. Throwing silk flower petals or plastic confetti, for example, is usually a big “no.”
If you want to maintain the traditional flower girl—or boy—role on your big day but find yourself restricted in what they can carry, consider a few alternatives that are just as adorable.
Bubbles
A battery-operated bubble blower or manual bubble wand in the hands of a cute kid is a recipe for an endearing wedding moment. Hand out miniature bottles of bubbles for guests to join in. Not only will it add a spark of childlike playfulness to the festivities, but the photos will also look amazing.
Ribbon Wands
Customizable and totally DIY–able, these whimsical attention-getters are a great way to incorporate your wedding colors into the wielder’s look. Have them spin and prance down the aisle, waving the little wand at everyone they see. Guests will have just as much fun as they do!
Bells
Have wedding bells literally ringing at any venue by giving your “flower child” a set of bells to softly chime as they make their way down the aisle. Larger individual bells can even be engraved to serve as wedding-day keepsakes.
Flowers
A basket of stemmed flowers can lead to precious moments as the carrier passes them out intermittently to guests sitting along the aisle. If you want to save some money or be more eco-friendly, consider paper or fabric flowers that will still look great and last forever.
Photos
For something more sentimental, have your flower girl carry a meaningful photo or two down the aisle. A photo of a lost loved one can be a way to include them in the day or a photo of you and your partner taken when you first met can act as a sweet reminder of how far the two of you have come.
